Pam & Stan are the Urban Survivalists. They bring you blog posts about projects they are currently undertaking in order to make themselves and their home a more sustainable place. The projects focus on Urban Sustainability–i.e. sustainability in an urban environment–and give detailed design and build information so that followers of the blog can duplicate their results.

About Stan: He is an undergraduate mechanical engineering student. Stan is an intern or Sulzer pumps this year. Not only does he express a common interest in engineering of all forms, but also takes his interest into practical applications. Our home has numerous project starts and ideas poking around every corner, the largest being the RepRap. Stan has successfully built two rapid prototyping machines, and one of them rests in our home. You can see some documentation here. Amidst all the fun of studying, working, and training for a marathon he still finds time to do some juggling and extensive programming!

ut Pam: She now works as a structural engineer EIT for a consulting engineering firm after graduating with a bachelors degree in civil engineering. She is skilled at learning 3d structural analysis software using it to implement quick and accurate designs. Her interests in engineering have lead her to learn about many earth friendly design options that she wishes would be implemented more frequently. Pam is also interested in gardening, hand crafted soap, arduino micro controllers, and training for a marathon. She loves to take the ingenuity of the engineering world and apply it to her home life via the projects presented in this blog.
We have been a couple since 2006! We work together on most things in our life and like it that way. Since moving to Portland, we have had a lot of time to explore our interests and have been having a lot of fun developing a more sustainable home. We hope that you enjoy reading about our endeavors and get some ideas for your own. Take care~ P&S
